This year, Air Horizont celebrates a decade since its founding, and we couldn't be prouder of what we have accomplished. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our passengers, partners and team for their unconditional support during these 10 years. Without you, our story would not have been possible.
Since we started our operations on June 5, 2014, as a small airline with big dreams, it has been a road full of challenges and transformations.
We have faced difficult times, like any emerging airline, but thanks to the resilience, effort and dedication of our entire team, today we are celebrating this special milestone.
A road full of challenges and successes
Born in Zaragoza, Air Horizont was founded with the mission to connect the Aragon region with the world. Although the beginnings were difficult, especially having to continuously adapt our business plans, we managed to stabilize and find our niche in the charter and ACMI (aircraft leasing with crew) market. Our founders, pilots Juan Luis Diez Maluenda and Manuel Salhi Romero, had to constantly adjust the strategy to ensure the continuity and success of the airline.
One of the first challenges was to move our Air Operator Certificate (AOC) to Malta, which allowed us to operate with greater flexibility. Despite initial delays and having to temporarily abandon scheduled flights to focus on charter flights, this decision was key to the company's survival and expansion.
International expansion
Over time, Air Horizont consolidated its presence in the European market. In 2016, we established a base in Milan, which allowed us to work more closely with Italian tour operators and expand our fleet. This not only strengthened our operations, but also allowed us to diversify our business and take advantage of new opportunities in peak season markets.
In 2017, an Irish company specializing in aeronautical investments joined our shareholding, providing us with greater financial stability at a crucial time. This backing was vital to our expansion, allowing us to operate in strategic markets such as Italy and Cape Verde, and to secure ACMI contracts with major airlines such as Blue Panorama.
Adaptation and resilience during the pandemic
However, the road has not always been smooth. The COVID-19 pandemic brought with it one of the biggest crises the airline industry has ever experienced. Like many other companies, Air Horizont faced a drastic decrease in demand, but thanks to our ability to adapt, we introduced new lines of business, such as VIP and executive flights. This allowed us to remain operational during the most difficult times, serving sports teams and corporate clients, and reaffirming our flexibility and innovative spirit.
Looking to the future with optimism
Today, with the continued support of our passengers and partners, we are stronger than ever. We have recovered our fleet and continue to grow in new markets, with bases in Porto, Bratislava and London. By 2023, we will carry more than 208,000 passengers and operate more than 1,600 flights, marking a return to normalcy after years of uncertainty.
We look to the future with enthusiasm and optimism, knowing that the coming years will bring new opportunities and challenges. We will continue to offer exceptional service, with a modern fleet and a team committed to providing the best flight experience for our passengers.
At Air Horizont, our mission has always been to fly high, and thanks to all of you, our customers, we have reached these 10 years with pride. This anniversary is not only a celebration of our past, but also a promise that we will continue to evolve to offer the best in the future. Thank you for trusting us and for joining us on this incredible journey!
