Zaragoza, July 11, 2024

At Air Horizont, we are proud of our continued leadership in the European market, but our focus has always been on Zaragoza. We want to attract more passengers and make Zaragoza a recognized destination throughout the continent.

Manuel Salhi, our Chief Operating Officer (COO) and pilot with more than 40 years of experience, guides us with passion and vision towards this goal.

What for many would seem a complicated task, for Manuel Salhi is a passion and a dream come true. Co-founder of the only Aragonese airline, Air Horizont, Salhi has led the company to be a solid and successful project for more than a decade, together with our CEO Juan Luis Díez.

Adaptation and resilience: the keys to our success

Initially, Air Horizont was born with the idea of operating regular lines from Zaragoza. However, we soon realized that competing in a market dominated by low-cost carriers was unsustainable. "Costs are not as optimized as in low-cost carriers," says Salhi, referring to the challenges of staying competitive in this segment.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought with it great challenges, but also new opportunities. We decided to remodel one of our aircraft from 168 to 72 business class seats and to offer premium services. This strategy attracted Premier League teams and production companies of international groups and renowned artists, consolidating a line of business that, although not our core business, provides us with year-round stability.

The heart of Air Horizont: getaways and tour operators

Despite these successes, the real heart of Air Horizont is still touroperation. We organize great getaways from Zaragoza to various European destinations during weekends and special dates. This format has been very well received by Zaragozans due to the flexibility and convenience of these express trips, which allow them to make the most of their time away from home.

Manuel Salhi says that although breakaways are not currently our main livelihood, we remain committed to Zaragoza. "We are very hard-headed and want to be here. Eventually, we will come up with some market that can work in Zaragoza."

Modernization and expansion

Looking ahead, one of our next steps is to modernize our fleet. We plan to incorporate aircraft with greater capacity and range, specifically the 800 model, which better optimizes costs and will allow us to compete more effectively in the winter market. "This will lead us to be able to develop a better winter market," Salhi explains.
